Smashing Taboos, Western Railway installs sanitary napkin dispensers for its women employees

Western Railway authorities have taken a historic step towards a woman hygiene by installing a sanitary napkin vending machines for its woman employees.

The dispensers have been installed in six divisions of Western Railway.

Including the headquarter of Western Railway at Church Gate other five divisions are Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Ratlam, Rajkot and Bhavnagar.

President Archana Gupta of Western Railway Women's Welfare Organisation (WRWWO) inaugurated the facility at its headquarter at Church gate.

Chief public relations officer of Western Railways, Ravinder Bhakar, said,"The WRWWO donated and commissioned sanitary napkin dispenser and incinerator at Churchgate yesterday for the benefit of the women working at the WR headquarters." 

The vending machine can be accessed through coins only.

"The women employees of the Western Railway has hailed this historic step," Bhakar added.

A study conducted AC Neilsen titles 'Sanitary protection: every woman's health right' says only 12% of India's 355 million menstruating women use sanitary napkins.

Over 23% of adolescent girls in the age- group of 12 to 18 years drop out of school after they start menstruating.
