Watch: 'Rock of Gibraltar' Lord Buddha statue major tourist attraction in Hyderabad

A Buddha statue in Hyderabad also called the "Rock of Gibraltar" has become a major tourist attraction in Telangana.

The 58-feet statute located in Lumbini Park in the Hussain Sagar Island can only be reached by boat. The statute is known to be the world's tallest monolithic statue of Lord Buddha.

The statue which was the brainchild of former chief minister NT Rama Rao of then Andhra Pradesh weighs 350 tons.

In 1990, the statue was pulled out after it had toppled into the lake. It was held atop a barge which collapsed, the accident killed 10 people.

It was resurrected in 1992 and has been standing tall on the Hussain Sagar island ever since.
