Iqbal surrendered as soon as he saw me: Pradeep Sharma

Iqbal Kaskar, the brother of Dawood Ibrahim, was arrested last night from Haseena Parkar's house. He was arrested by the Thane Police in an extortion case on Monday evening.

Pradeep Sharma, Mumbai's famous 'encounter specialist' in a rare chat said that Iqbal Kaskar's arrest was "strictly confidential" as the cops weren't informed about Kaskar till the last moment.

Pradeep Sharma who has struck down several underworld criminals over the years declared Kaskar surrendered as soon as he saw him.

Sharma, however, didn't rate Kaskar's arrest as a high point, saying he had undertaken several other major encounters in his career back in 1999 and 2003.

Sharma was instrumental in arresting dreaded LeT terrorists including terrorists with links to Jaish supremo Masood Azhar back in the late 90s and early 2000.

The Mumbai 'encounter cop' has led a charmed life, often a tad controversial going by police records.

Sharma was dismissed by the Maharastra government in 2008 for his alleged involvement in corruption and closeness to several criminals, he was however reinstated a year later after the charges were dropped.

In 2013, a Mumbai court acquitted Sharma in an alleged fake encounter case lodged against him in 2006.

Pradeep's ''star appeal'' naturally attracted the attention of Mumbai's film industry with a Marathi movie ''Rege'' directed by Abhijit Panse released three years ago. The movie depicted Sharma's life on the big screen.
