"Never fall in love on Facebook," Hamid Nehal Ansari has said after spending six years in Pakistani jails. 

Hamid had crossed over into Pakistan from Afghanistan in 2012, reportedly to meet a girl he had befriended online. He was caught and subsequently sentenced to three years in prison for travelling on a fake passport. 

His sentence came to an end on December 15 this year. 

Hamid returned to India on Tuesday, passing through the Attari-Wagah border to a tearful reunion with his parents and brother. 

Hamid is a software engineer from Mumbai. He has since become a symbol of the innocent Indian and Pakistani prisoners languishing in each other's jails. 

The second lesson, Hamid said — he was asked what were the three lessons he had learnt, he spoke to the Zee News Network at his home in Mumbai — is to never hide anything from your mum and dad. 

"Never hide anything from your mum and dad, ever," Hamid said. "Good or bad, big or small. 

"Tell your parents, even if they shout at you. Because even if they do, they will only do so for your good." 

Hamid had obviously not told his parents before crossing over into Pakistan. 

And finally, Hamid said, follow the legal process wherever you go. 

"Don't be emotional, think with your head," he added.
