Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's condition remains critical and he is on life support, Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences said Thursday.

"Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's condition continues to remain the same. He is critical and on life support systems," AIIMS said in a statement.

Vajpayee has been in hospital for close to nine weeks now.

He was admitted to AIIMS on June 11 with a kidney tract infection, a urinary tract infection, low urine output, and chest congestion.

He was visited in hospital Thursday morning by his contemporary and former deputy prime minister LK Advani, and Prime Minister Modi. This was Modi's second visit. He had also visited Vajpayee on Wednesday evening.
