As BJP President Amit Shah is set to address a public rally in Kolkata on Saturday, West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress organised protest rallies in other districts opposing National Register of Citizens (NRC).

TMC secretary-general Partha Chatterjee said that the protests were being organised to demand the inclusion of the Bengali speaking people in NRC.

He added that the protest rallies will be carried out in West Bengal but not in Kolkata adding that the party would take out a rally in Kolkata on Sunday.

The BJP has accused the TMC of timing the protests to restrict their party supporters from entering Kolkata to participate in Shah's rally.

The BJP had earlier claimed that the Kolkata Police did not give permission to hold the rally at the venue that they had asked for. The BJP was allowed to hold the rally at the Mayo Road in Central Kolkata.

Ahead of Shah's rally in the capital, posters and placards asking the BJP to quit Bengal have sprung up at various localities.
