JeM commander killed in Kashmir, encounter continues

A Jaish-e-Mohammed's (JeM) commander was killed in an encounter in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir Monday night.

The commander was identified as 47-year-old Noor Muhammad Tantray.

The encounter continues. 

Tantray, who is the main accused in the attack on the BSF camp near Srinagar airport in October, was shot in a gunbattle with security forces in south Kashmir's Samboora. 

The body of the militant has been recovered along with the weapon.

Tantray had taken over command of the JeM in south Kashmir in October. 

He was arrested in Delhi in 2003 and awarded a life sentence by a POTA court in 2001 but jumped parole a few months ago and joined the militancy, 

Jammu and Kashmir Police, 110 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and 50 RR (Rashtriya Rifles) have been deployed at the encounter site.

Search operations are currently being carried out.
