The bench will be led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi. The plea by the CBI alleges non-cooperation by the Kolkata Police and the Bengal government in the investigation into the Saradha chit fund scam.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court will hear the CBI plea against the Kolkata Police and the West Bengal government on Tuesday

The bench will be led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, with Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Sanjeev Khanna on it.

The plea by the CBI alleges non-cooperation by the Kolkata Police and the Bengal government in the investigation into the Saradha chit fund scam. The CBI has accused Kolkata Police chief Rajeev Kumar of slow-walking the investigation.

On Sunday evening, a CBI team turned up at Kumar's home — sparking the current political crisis between the Centre and the West Bengal government.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been sitting on a dharna since Sunday night.

The CBI had asked the Supreme Court to hear the matter on Monday itself, saying Kumar had destroyed evidence in the case.

CJI Gogoi had responded that the court had gone through the CBI's submission, and there was nothing in it to suggest Kumar had actually destroyed evidence.

He added though that the court would come down very heavily on Kumar should the CBI be able to provided evidence that he was actually guilty of destroying evidence.
