Third fodder scam case: Ex-Bihar CMs Lalu Yadav, Jagannath Mishra sentenced to 5 years in jail

This is the third fodder scam case -- referred to as the Chaibasa treasury case. The case pertained to the embezzlement of Rs 33.67 crore from Chaibasa district treasury during 1992-93.
Lalu is currently serving a 3.5-year jail term in Ranchi's Birsa Munda jail after being found guilty (in a fodder scam case) on December 23, 2017.
The RJD will continue the legal battle in the fodder scam case, party leader Raghuvansh Prasad said on Wednesday after Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad was found guilty in the third case in the scam.
Raghuvansh Prasad, known to be close to the former Chief Minister, said that the sentences given to the RJD chief would only "strengthen" the party's resolve.
"The jail sentence (given to Lalu Prasad) will strengthen our party and supporters, it will bring unity," said the national vice president of the party.
"We will keep the fight on, we will continue to fight the legal battle," he said.
The fodder scam was first unearthed in the 1990's by the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General when it noticed that invoices from the Bihar treasury would always come in late.
