One terrorist has been killed in an ongoing encounter with the security forces in central Kashmir's Gandarbal district following a search operation in the area after inputs about their presence in the Gund area.

Sources told WION that after the operation was launched, the terrorists opened on the joint forces of the Indian army and J&K police triggering a gunfight. "One terrorist has been eliminated and the operation is in progress," defence PRO, based in Srinagar told. 

Security forces had inputs about the presence of two to three in the Gund area following which the operation was launched. Otherwise considered a "militancy free," the district is witnessing a second encounter after the abrogation of J&K special status.  

In September, the Indian army had launched a massive operation in the mountains of Gandarbal, killing two terrorists and arresting two over-ground workers, who according to police sources guides of the terrorists killed. 

Yesterday, two terrorists, including one of Pakistan origin Lashkar-e-Toiba commander identified as Abu Talha was killed in an encounter in north Kashmir's Bandipora district. Sources said that the terrorist was active since last thee years in the valley and was behind several attacks. 

The operation in Gandarbal was going on in the area till the last report came in.
