The Anti-Sterlite protest case has been transferred to Crime Branch CID as per the order by Tamil Nadu's Director general of police, TK Rajendran.
The Tamil Nadu government on Monday directed the permanent closure of the Sterlite copper smelting plant in Thoothukudi (Tuticorin).
As many as 13 people lost their lives in anti-Sterlite clashes between protesters and the local police.
The Government Order (GO) said it endorsed the recent closure direction of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, and also asked the TNPCB to "seal the unit and close the plant permanently".
The locals were protesting for the closure of the factory for 99 days when the protests took a violent turn on May 22, the 100th day of their stir.
