At least 15 people lost their lives after a compound wall collapsed and damaged three houses following heavy rains in Nadoor Kannappan Layout in Mettupalayam in the wee hours on Monday, reported news agency ANI.

Moderate rains battered Tamil Nadu`s capital Chennai with the temperature oscillating between 24 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius with the relative humidity docking at 95 per cent.

Heavy falls reported at isolated places likely over Karaikal, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep.

The squally weather (wind speed 40-50 kmph) likely to prevail over the southwest Arabian Sea and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean and over Lakshadweep and adjoining Maldives area andSoutheast Arabian Sea along and off Kerala coast.

Fishermen were advised not to venture into these areas for the next couple of days.
