Taj Mahal not on list of UP tourist spots

The Taj Mahal has fallen off the list of the Uttar Pradesh government's tourist spots. 

The omission was made by the Uttar Pradesh government in a booklet it brought out to celebrate six months of the Yogi Adityanth government in power. 

The new booklet mentions the Gorakhpur temple (of which Yogi is chief priest) as a tourist spot, as well as temples in Mathura and Ayodhya. 

But it makes no mention of the Taj. 

The Taj of course is thought as one of the seven wonders of the world. 

Yogi had recently also criticised the practice of gifting visiting dignitaries with replicas of the Taj. 

“Foreign dignitaries visiting the country used to be gifted replicas of the Taj Mahal and other minarets which did not reflect Indian culture,” Adityanath was quoted as saying by the Telegraph newspaper.

The booklet was released by tourism minister Rita Bahugana Joshi. 

When asked about the omission, she however told ANI that "The Taj Mahal is our cultural heritage, priority."
