External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has asked the Indian Embassy in the US for a report on the alleged beating of a Sikh boy in Washington state.

"I have seen news reports about the beating of a Sikh boy in the US. I have asked the Indian Embassy in the US to send me a report on the incident," Swaraj said in a tweet.

According to news reports, the 14-year-old was attacked by a classmate in the vicinity of Kentridge High School. The entire incident was recorded and shared on Snapchat.

In the  Snapchat video, the classmate follows the Sikh boy, before suddenly hitting him and knocking him to the ground. He then repeatedly punches the victim, who tries to shield himself and crawl away.

His father is claiming that his son was targeted because he is of Indian descent

School officials have denied all these allegations of the attack as being religiously or racially motivated. The student who attacked the boy will be appropriately punished, said Chris Loftis, communications director for the Kent School District.
