The Supreme Court has allowed the UIDAI CEO to make it a power point presentation on the Aadhaar programme.

The presentation by the UIDAI CEO, Dr Ajay Bhushan Pandey, will be made today at 2.30 pm today. It is meant to allay people's fears about the scheme.

The request had been made yesterday, with the Chief Justice of India replying to the Government of India's counsel that he would get back to him after discussing the idea with the other judges on the bench listening to the myriad petitions against the programme.

The Supreme Court has also asked the petitioners opposed to the Aadhaar programme to prepare a questionnaire after the power point presentation.

The Aadhaar programme aims to assign every single Indian citizen a unique identification number. The government says this will streamline its delivery systems, getting aid more efficiently to the people who need it the most.

In reality however there have been reports of people without Aadhaar numbers starving to death because government ration shops have refused to serve them.

A number of petitions were filed against the programme. The petitions were later clubbed together by the Supreme Court.
