Sterlite case: National Green Tribunal allows access to administrative unit
Follow UsThe National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Thursday allowed Sterlite to access the administrative unit inside its plant at Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The case will be heard next August 20.
According to media reports, Sterlite will have no access to its production unit in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The NGT has also directed Tamil Nadu state pollution control board to submit data on pollution around Sterlite plant within 10 days.
The Central Pollution Control Board and the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board will submit their report on pollution figures in the area within 10 days, ANI reported.

Industrialist Anil Agarwal's Vedanta Resources Plc challenged Tamil Nadu government's order to permanently shut down its Sterlite copper plant in Thoothukudi. On July 30, the court had refused to grant any interim relief to Vedanta in the Sterlite case.
On May 28, the Tamil Nadu government had ordered the state pollution control board to seal and "permanently" close the mining group's copper plant following violent protests over pollution concerns.
Vedanta seeks permission to operate the unit and wants the court to declare Tamil Nadu government's move to close the Sterlite plant as unlawful.
As many as 13 people lost their lives in anti-Sterlite clashes between protesters and the local police.
The locals were protesting for the closure of the factory for 99 days when the protests took a violent turn on May 22, the 100th day of their stir.
