Sidhu controversy will be forgotten, fundamental question is of India-Pak ties: Mani Shankar Aiyar

Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar on Monday reacted to the controversy-buildup around Navjot Singh Sidhu's recent Pakistan visit. Aiyar noted that the controversy only affects the media and will be forgotten.

"The Sidhu controversy only affects the media, you will forget it by tomorrow," he said.

Aiyar stated that the more fundamental question is on India-Pak ties, "on which there has been no progress".

He added that he does not expect any change in India-Pak relations in the last few months of the BJP-led central government, " will speak on it once the new government comes," Aiyar added.

Mani Shankar Aiyar, who was previously suspended from Congress party over allegedly passing a comment on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His suspension was revoked on Saturday.

Senior Congress leader and cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu on Saturday attended the oath-taking ceremony of the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan.

Many political leaders, especially the Opposition, criticised Sidhu for sitting next to PoK President Masood Khan and for hugging Pak Army Chief General Bajwa.
