Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah on Monday slammed his Uttar Pradesh counterpart for criticising his food habits.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath recently targetted Siddaramaiah for eating beef.

Siddaramaiah took to Twitter retorting, "I have taken care of cows, I feed them and I have also cleaned cow dung. What moral rights Yogi Adityanath has got to criticise me? Has he ever taken care of cows?"

Siddaramaiah continued with his Twitter tirade and noted that many people from the Hindu community eat beef, it is a personal choice and that Yogi Adityanath should not be questioning someone's preferences.

"Many in Hindu religion eat beef and I will eat if I want to eat beef, but I don't like beef that's why I don't eat it. Who is he to ask?" read his tweet.

Yogi Adityanath, while addressing a BJP rally in Bengaluru, accused Siddaramaiah of intermixing religion and politics. He questioned Siddaramaiah on why he was "endorsing beef eaters" if he was a Hindu.

UP CM recently took part in the 'Nava Karnataka Parivartan Yatre' rally organised by the BJP's Karnataka unit in Bengaluru.

The 'Yatra' was a part of the party's ongoing state-wide 75-day campaign to "expose misdeeds" of the Siddaramaiah government.

The Chief Ministers engaged in a Twitter spat over governance and development issue where Siddaramaiah tweeted that the UP CM Yogi Adityanath can "learn a lot" from the Karnataka government.

"Please visit an Indira Canteen and a ration shop. It will help you address the starvation deaths sometimes reported from your state," read his tweet.

UP CM lashed out tweeting, "Thank you for the welcome @siddaramaiah ji. I heard the number of farmers committing suicide in Karnataka was highest in your regime, not to mention the numerous deaths and transfer of honest officers."

Karnataka is set to go for the assembly elections this year. Yogi Adityanath will be part of the BJP-led 'Parivartan Yatra' in the run-up to the assembly polls.
