Congress MP Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar was "poisoned", according to an exclusive report by DNA newspaper.

Sunanda was found dead in a five-star hotel in Delhi on January 17, 2014, with police still investigating the cause of her mysterious death.

"Whether the poison was orally given or injected is a matter to be probed,” the report noted.

The circumstantial evidence suggested alprazolam poisoning, it said.

The DNA report states that Sub Divisional Magistrate had ordered the Station House Officer of Sarojini Nagar to investigate the case as "murder".

Sub Divisional Magistrate at Vasant Vihar Alok Sharma reportedly inspected the hotel and observed that it wasn't a suicide case, the newspaper said.

The report added that Sunanda's body had "various scuffle marks".

"These seems to have caused due to scuffle between Sunanda Pushkar and her husband Shashi Tharoor as per the statement of their personal attendant Narain Singh,” the report declared.

The report was submitted to Southern Delhi range Joint Commissioner of Police Vivek Gogia and to the home ministry.

The police filed an FIR in the case after year and investigation was delayed for nearly two years as a result, a decision which was taken by the then  Commissioner of Police BS Bassi, DNA said.

DNA said the report had all annexure - post-mortem, chemical,  biological and fingerprints reports but the police still did not register a case.
