The court issued a notice to the UP government, asking it to reply within four weeks.

Adityanath is the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

The speech in question was given in Gorakhpur, outside the town's railway station.

A complaint filed with the police later said the speech had been inflammatory and had incited communal violence.

Adityanath was at the time MP from Gorakhpur.

The Supreme Court was on Monday hearing a petition challenging the Allahabad High Court judgement upholding the state government's decision to refuse permission to prosecute Adityanath.
