Kerala's Sabarimala temple will open for a second time today following the Supreme Court verdict allowing the entry of women of all ages.

The temple will open at 5 pm today and then close again tomorrow evening.

To prevent any further clashes, the authorities have deployed over 2,300 police personnel outside the temple premises. And section 144 which prohibits the assembly of more than four people has been imposed in Pamba and Nilakkal.

Women between the ages of 10 and 50 had earlier been banned from visiting the temple because worshippers believe the temple deity Lord Ayappa is celibate. The Supreme Court recently overturned the ban.

Huge protests by Hindu groups however followed, with male worshippers preventing about a dozen women who tried from entering the temple.

On Sunday, a day before the opening of the temple, Congress party leaders held a protest against the Supreme Court verdict in Pathanamthitta district.

Meanwhile, the police have not received any request from any woman asking assistance to visit Sabarimala's sanctum sanctorum.
