The bodies of a retired Andhra judge and his wife were on Friday found on the railway tracks near Tirupati.

Police said the judge had thrown himself in front of a train, and that his wife followed suit a few hours later.

Police identified the retired additional district judge as Pamuluru Sudhaka and his wife as Varalakshmi. They were 62 and 56. News reports Saturday said their bodies were recovered from the railway tracks near Chadalavada Engineering College in Renigunta, 10 km from Tirupati.

The reports quoted the judge's suicide note as saying he was no longer able to bear the trauma of the kidney disease he was suffering from, which is why he was ending his life.

Police said that on hearing the news, the judge's son and daughter, Sandeep and Sabitha, both of whom are software professionals in Bengaluru, rushed home.

Varalakshmi on the other hand visited the spot and took the same extreme step as her husband.
