Pitched as a car in the "premier" category, Captur will be sold in the Rs 10-20 lakh SUV segment and will compete with the Hyundai Creta and the Jeep Compass SUVs.
The automaker says there is no base variant on the Captur for the Indian market.
Commentators say it sleeker than the Duster with which it shares its 1.5 litre diesel engine.
The crossover is already on sale in 75 countries.
