Received message from PM Modi, tweets Imran Khan on eve of Pakistan National Day

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday tweeted what he described as a message from India's PM Modi on the eve of National Day of Pakistan.

According to Pakistan PM Imran Khan, PM Modi's message read: ''It is time that people of sub-continent work together for a democratic, peaceful, progressive and prosperous region, in an atmosphere free of terror and violence.'' 

''Received msg from PM Modi: "I extend my greetings & best wishes to the people of Pakistan on the National Day of Pakistan. It is time that ppl of Sub-continent work together for a democratic, peaceful, progressive & prosperous region, in an atmosphere free of terror and violence," tweeted Khan. 

India is not sending any representative to Pakistan National Day reception on Saturday in New Delhi after Islamabad extended invitation to Hurriyat leaders for the event. 

"I can confirm India has decided not to send any representative. This decision was taken after Pakistan decided to invite the Hurriyat representative to the reception," ministry of external affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said in a press conference on Friday.

In the past, India had sent the minister of state in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Gen VK Singh, former minister of state in MEA MJ Akbar and minister of state in agriculture ministry Gajendra Singh Shekhawat as India's representative during Pakistan's National Day.

On Pakistan National Day held on March 23, Muslim League had passed the Lahore resolution calling for the formation of Pakistan on March 23, 1940. Pakistan adopted its constitution on March 23, 1956.
