"He is expected to take up the assignment shortly," the MEA said.

Raveesh Kumar has served for 33 months in the high-profile MEA spokesperson post. He passed on the baton to Anurag Srivastava in April this year.

His diplomatic career began with the Indian Mission in Jakarta, Indonesia. He was also posted in Thimpu and London. While being posted in Delhi, he looked after the East Asia desk. Before being the Consul General of India at Frankfurt, Germany, he was the Deputy Chief of Mission in Jakarta from September 2010 to August 2013.
