Bollywood actor Salman Khan, actress Shilpa Shetty have reportedly been summoned by the Deputy Superintendent of Rajasthan`s Churu district, Hukum Singh, for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Valmiki community by using the word "bhangi" in a derogatory manner.

Film analyst Komal Nahta has also been summoned, ANI reported.

A police complaint was registered against the actors in Mumbai for their usage of the word last month.

Salman Khan had used the word 'bhangi' while referring to his dancing skills while promoting his film "Tiger Zinda Hai". Shilpa Shetty had used the word to describe how she looks at home.

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) had also sought replies from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the police commissioners of Delhi and Mumbai over the issue after it received a complaint from an ex-chairman of the Delhi Commission for Safai Karamcharis, Harnam Singh.
