Nearly 50 people were killed as rains coupled with thunderstorm and lightning hit several parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra overnight, officials said Wednesday.
The meteorological department of India on Wednesday predicted the Western Disturbance, that had caused severe rain and thunderstorm conditions in northwest India and parts of central India on Tuesday, to have moved eastwards. As a result, the Met department has predicted "widespread rainfall, isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds" over Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, northeast Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for the next 24 hours.
Nearly 50 people were killed as rains, coupled with thunderstorm and lightning, hit several parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra overnight, officials said Wednesday.
The unseasonal rains and storm also caused damage to property and crops in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Rajasthan witnessed the maximum casualties with 21 people killed in rain-related incidents following by Madhya Pradesh where 15 were killed. While 10 people were killed in Gujarat, three were killed in Maharashtra.
For Thursday, the weather department has predicted heavy rainfall in parts of Kerala and Arunachal Pradesh.
Thunderstorm, accompanied with gusty winds and lightning is likely to occur in parts of Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Telangana, Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka and Tamilnadu.
