Railways ministry seeks supply of nearly 89,000 CCTVs for all stations, floats tender 

The Ministry of Railways has floated a tender to initiate the installation of CCTV cameras in all its stations and coaches as part of its surveillance plan, news agency PTI reported. 

According to a tender uploaded on the website of the railway's telecom arm, RailTel, on August 22, the ministry seeks the supply, installation, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance of as many as 89,845 IP (Internet Protocol) based video surveillance system (VSS). 

These will be set up at 6,124 railway stations of A1, A, B, C, D and E category across northern, western, eastern and southern region. However, the tender does not include installation in coaches as of now. The last date for submission of bids for the tender is September 18.

It has asked for four types of cameras to provide high-level security and vigilance which will not only record all the movement at stations but will also be equipped with facial recognition software, motion detection, quick review and intrusion detection. 

The ministry has allocated Rs 3,000 crore in its 2018-19 budget to install CCTV systems across 11,000 trains and 8,500 stations in a bid to bolster up its vigilance, security and surveillance system.
