The Congress president wrote on Twitter that another scam had erupted under PM Modi's 'Jan Dhan Loot Yojana'

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday took potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over a Delhi-based diamond jewellery exporter being booked for an alleged bank loan fraud worth Rs 389.85 crore.

The Congress president wrote on Twitter that another scam had erupted under PM Modi's "Jan Dhan Loot Yojana" which had the same modus operandi as the 11,400 crore scam involving jewellery designer Nirav Modi -- fake LoUs (Letters of Undertaking).

Rahul Gandhi further alleged that like liquor baron Vijay Mallya, who is accused of financial crimes and faces extradition from UK and Nirav Modi, "this promoter too has disappeared while the government looked the other way."

Congress leader Kapil Sibal today questioned why people like Nirav Modi, who were indulging in the banking scam, were "allowed to escape the country".

"Country has faced a loss of around Rs 21,000 crore as of now and other banking frauds will also come out in a few days. Another Rs 390 crore OBC (Oriental Bank of Commerce) scam has also emerged.

"I am surprised that despite our prime minister being the most expensive 'chowkidar' (watchman), why are all these (banking frauds) happening under his nose," Sibal told a press conference here, taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his refrain during poll rallies that he would act as a watchman for the country.
