Priyanka Gandhi meets two relatives of Sonbhadra violence victims  

The standoff between Congress eastern Uttar Pradesh general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Uttar Pradesh government remains unresolved. Gandhi was detained Friday for trying to meet victims of a civil dispute which resulted in 10 deaths in Sonbhadra district.

Priyanka was denied permission to visit the district and subsequently detained in Mirzapur district at Chunnar guest house. The guest house did not have a functional water and electricity connection, but that did not deter Priyanka Gandhi who stayed put at the guest house.

Two relatives of victims met Gandhi on Saturday while 15 others were not allowed to meet the Congress leader

''Two relatives of victims have come here to meet me, 15 others are not being allowed to meet me,'' she was quoted as saying.

Many leaders in BJP feel that state unit overplayed its hand by stopping Priyanka which would have been a low- profile visit. Priyanka Gandhi is insisting that she should be allowed to meet the families of all victims. 

To raise the morale of the cadres, senior leaders from the Congress have also rushed to Varanasi. Rahul Gandhi is abroad, and Priyanka has been able to provide a much-required fillip to the congress party.

The whole episode has given hope to down and out congress party.
