PNB's Internal Chief Auditor arrested, 34 more bank accounts of Gitanjali Group attached

The Central Bureau of Investigation today arrested an Internal Chief Auditor of Punjab National Bank in connection to the Rs 11,400 crore PNB scam. The arrested Auditor MK Sharma was allegedly responsible for auditing the systems and practices of PNB, Brady House Branch.

Meanwhile, 34 more bank accounts of the Gitanjali Group -- with the balance of Rs 1.45 crore -- have been attached by the Income Tax department. 

Four more properties of Nirav Modi's group have also been attached including his Alibaug farm worth Rs 13 crore & 5.24 MW solar power plant with 135 acres of land at Karjat, Ahmednagar worth Rs. 70 crore.

A lookout notice or Blue Corner notice has also been issued against Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi by the Bureau of Immigration on the IT department's request.

The CBI also registered a case of bank loan fraud against RP Infosystem and its directors earlier today. The fraud is estimated to worth nearly Rs 515.15 crore.

Punjab National Bank had earlier this month reported fraudulent transactions worth Rs 11,400 crore from a single Mumbai branch. The bank has since said the total amount scammed might be Rs 1,300 crore more. 

Diamantaire Nirav Modi figures at the centre of the Rs 11,400 crore mega PNB scam and is accused of defrauding the bank of Rs 280 crore.
