Modi stakes claim to form government, swearing-in likely on May 30

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday to stake claim to form the government.

Letters of support from NDA constituent parties were also handed over to the President.

The delegation also comprised Prakash Singh Badal, Rajnath Singh, Nitish Kumar, Ram Vilas Paswan, Sushma Swaraj, Uddhav Thakeray, Nitin Gadkari, K. Palaniswami, Conrad Sangma and Neiphiu Rio, called on president.  

Rashtrapati Bhavan said exercising powers vested in him under Article 75 (1) of the Constitution of India, President appointed Narendra Modi to the office of Prime Minister of India.

The President also requested Modi to advise him about the names of others to be appointed members of the Union Council of Ministers and to indicate the date and time of the swearing-in-ceremony to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place on May 30.
