PM Modi leads Twitter's 'most popular' list of 2017

As the year nears its end, microblogging giant, Twitter recently released a list of top trending hashtags, most retweeted posts and top followed personalities for the year 2017.

While PM Narendra Modi was the most followed personality in India this year, others on the list included eminent personalities like Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, said Twitter in a release.

According to the Twitter release, some of the most popular hashtags under 'news and governance' category for India included #Jallikattu, #GST, #tripletalaq, #demonetisation and #mumbairains.

PM Modi's radio initiative, 'Mann Ki Baat' (#Mannkibaat) emerged as the most hashtag under the category.

#Gujaratelections, #Swachhbharat and #Uttarpradesh also made to the list.

PM Narendra Modi also emerged as the most popular political figure among Twitterati in India followed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath; BJP Chief Amit Shah and Congress President Rahul Gandhi. 

According to trends, Anushka Sharma's wedding post on Twitter was named as the 'Golden Tweet' of the year with the maximum number of reposts.
