Sabarimala: 1 injured in clashes after woman, thought to be of menstrual age, tries to enter temple

A photojournalist was injured in clashes at Kerala's Sabarimala temple on Tuesday after a woman devotee, suspected to be of menstrual age, tried to enter the temple.
As per news agency ANI, the injured person has been identified as Amrita TV cameraperson Biju.

The violence only stopped when the police confirmed that she is 52-years-old and allowed her to visit the shrine. She later performed prayers at the temple under police protection.

The Sabarimala shrine opened yesterday for the second time in three weeks for a two-day special puja amid unprecedented security over fear of protests by those opposing the Supreme Court's order allowing women of all age groups into the temple.
Kerala police has deployed nearly two thousand three hundred police personnel over fears that those opposing the supreme court's order allowing women of all age groups into the temple may stage protests.

However, the security arrangements have not gone down well with the devotees and right-wing activists who protested at several places against the restrictions at Sabarimala, considered the sacred grove of Lord Ayyappa, a celibate.
