Paris protesters chanting 'We want Trump' is fake news but he retweets it

There is a rumour going around (on social media of course) that the Yellow Vest protesters in France have been clamouring for Trump as their leader — a rumour that Trump himself might have begun to believe. 

On Wednesday, Trump retweeted conservative commentator Charlie Kick who said the protesters in France had been chanting "We want Trump". 

The theory — that the protesters had been asking for Trump — was quickly debunked, with news organisations saying they had heard nothing of the sort on the ground. 

CNN added that the video doing the rounds along with the rumour appears to have been shot in London. "The police in the video are English, an English flag is visible during the start of the video, and the blue, double-decker bus in the shot appears to be operated by a company that does sightseeing tours of London," CNN said.  

Charlie Kick had tweeted: "There are riots in socialist France because of radical leftist fuel taxes Media barely mentioning this America is booming, Europe is burning They want to cover up the middle class rebellion against cultural Marxism 'We want Trump' being chanted through the streets of Paris" 

Kick's tweet was then retweeted by Trump. 

France's "Yellow Vest" protests broke out two weeks ago over a fuel tax hike. At least two people have died in the protests and over 600 have been injured. 

The French government finally announced on Tuesday that it was rolling back the hike.
