Emmanuel Macron hails 'historic relationship' between India and France

French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday hailed the 'historic relationship' between India and France.   

Macron, who is currently on four-day India tour from March 9 to March 12, was given a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Saturday morning as he met president Ram Nath Kovind.

''I think we have very good chemistry, our two great democracies have a historic relationship'' said Macron after the reception.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron will hold delegation-level talks in the Delhi on Sunday.

Besides reviewing progress in bilateral relations, both the leaders will hold a discussion on topics related to enhancement and cooperation in defence, maritime, security and energy-related sectors.

Several agreements are also expected to be signed on areas related to terrorism, climate change, sustainable growth and development, infrastructure, smart urbanization, science and technology cooperation.

Macron also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Rajghat along with his wife Brigitte Macron.

The India-France CEO's Forum will also take place during the visit.

Macron and Modi will also co-chair the International Solar Alliance (ISA) summit on Sunday.

He is also expected to visit Taj Mahal before heading for Varanasi accompanied by Modi on Monday.

Macron last visited India in 2016 when he was invited to be the chief guest of Republic Day celebrations.

He also met Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj earlier today.
