Ought to be 'give and take equation' with JD(S) in Karnataka: Congress' Mallikarjun Kharge

Congress MP (Member of Parliament) Mallikarjun Kharge said today that "keeping everything in mind" in the Karnataka elections, there should be a "give and take equation" with the JD(S) while forming the cabinet.

The Congress leader made the statement when asked about the formation of the cabinet in Karnataka.

He also said the Congress high command would decide on cabinet formation.

High command will take decision. We, being a national party, supported JD(S) - a regional party, to uphold Constitutional principles and democracy. Keeping everything in mind, there ought to be a 'give & take' equation," Mallikarjun Kharge said.

The Congress MP had earlier predicted that his party would win the floor test.

"The BJP does not have the numbers we will win the floor test. The BJP is just trying to prove their majority and they will fail to do so," he had said ahead of the floor test.

In the May 12 polls, the BJP emerged as the single largest party with 104 members, while Congress secured 78, the JD(S) 37 and others three.

The BJP, which had insisted it should stake claim to form the government by virtue of being the single largest party, was invited by the Karnataka governor to form the government. The governor gave the party two weeks time for the trust vote, a decision which was revoked by the Supreme Court which ordered a floor test on May 19. The BS Yeddyurappa-led government was briefly sworn in before Yeddyurappa's resignation minutes ahead of the floor test. The Congress, which had struck a post-poll alliance with the JD(S) and two independents, will now form the government in the state with a total of 117 seats.
