On 49th edition of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi hails Patel's contribution to 'united India'

Delivering the 49th radio address of Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the country to "Run for Unity" on the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.

PM Modi asked the people to participate in the "Run for Unity" event on October 31 which would be held on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabbhai Patel.

Announcing the unveiling of the "Statue of Unity" on October 31 in Gujarat's Narmada district, PM Modi said that Sardar Patel's birth anniversary will be even more special this year as the country would be dedicating the statue of Unity to him.

"31st October marks the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabbhai Patel, and like every year, the youth of our nation is geared up to 'Run for Unity'. I appeal each one of you to participate in 'Run for Unity' in largest possible numbers", he said.

"Sardar Patel's Jayanti this year will be even more special as on this day, we'll pay him true homage by dedicating 'Statue of Unity' to the nation. Located by the banks of river Narmada, the height of this idol is twice that of America's renowned 'Statue of Liberty'".

PM Modi also recalled the contribution of Sardar Patel in uniting the country. He said the leader ensured "the merger of all princely states with the Dominion of India".

The "Run for Unity" marathon was flagged off by the prime minister on the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel last year. He had also announced the day as "Rashtriya Ekta Diwas".

The marathon was introduced with the aim of having every Indian run together in a tribute to Sardar Patel.

Further hailing the victory of the athletes in Asian Para Games PM Modi said, "India created a new record in these games by winning 72 medals. I was privileged to meet the talented para-athletes who participated in Asian Para Games held in Jakarta. Their spirit to overcome all adversaries is exemplary and inspiring."

He also praised the country's soldier saying that "our soldiers showed the world that they are second to none when it comes to war".

PM Modi said, "This year November 11 holds special significance as the day when World War-I ended 100 years ago. Our soldiers fought with valour and gave supreme sacrifice and showed the world that they are second to none when it comes to war".
