J&K: Security personnel open fire after detecting 'suspicious activity' near Uri army camp

A joint team of forces in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir(J&K) launched a search operation on Sunday night after the Indian army noticed "suspicious movement" near their camp at Uri.

"During night hours sentry (guard) of Army artillery unit at Rajarwani Uri detected some suspicious movement around the camp and opened fire. The area has been cordoned and is being searched jointly by the police and army," police officials said. 

Army personal noticed movement near the wall of the camp at 3am at Mohra in Uri, which is near the Line of Control(LoC) between India and Pakistan.

Sources told WION that "forces suspect terrorists could be hiding nearby, so a combing operation has been launched", adding that army fired two under-barrel grenade launchers towards an area but there was no gunfire.

Security forces have been conducting searches in the area, the official said.
