No place for violence in democracy, tweets Lt Governor after meeting Kejriwal

After their first meeting following the ruling Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP)'s stand-off with Delhi's bureaucrats, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal tweeted that he strongly condemned the "recent unfortunate incidents" and that there was "no place for violence in democracy".

The Lt Governor also said that he had asked the Delhi chief minister "to remove mistrust with government employees so that development of Delhi is not affected."

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote on Twitter that bureaucrats were not attending meetings since the last three days and governance was suffering. He said the Lieutenant Governor had assured him that he will take all steps to ensure officers started functioning normally. 
 

Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that that the Lt Governor had been provided with a list of officers who were not attending meetings or receiving phone calls since the last two-three days.

"We told the LG how officers, in these 2-3 days, didn't come to attend meetings and didn't receive calls, as a result of these several meetings ended up being cancelled. So we gave a list to the LG. We have also asked him to talk to officers," Manish Sisodia said.

"LG said that he will ensure officers come for meeting and work with ministers. CM has also said that he will ensure that no untoward incident takes place."

The stand-off between Delhi's ruling party and the bureaucrats comes after the alleged assault of Delhi's Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash by AAP legislators Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal.

The Delhi chief secretary had alleged that he was roughed up by the AAP MLAs during a meeting at the Chief Minister's residence on Monday night.

Parkash Jarwal and Ajay Dutt, AAP MLAs from Deoli and Ambedkar Nagar respectively, had claimed the bureaucrat made casteist remarks.
