Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said there is no dearth of jobs in his state but that there is a dearth of talent amongst the youth, which is what is making them jobless.

News reports Monday quoted Adityanath as making his claim at a private function in Lucknow. Adityanath had been asked about his promise to offer government jobs to the unemployed youth who leave the state in search of jobs.

"The state has enough jobs, but no skilled candidate," news reports quoted Adityanath as saying.

Expectedly, Adityanath's statement has been panned across the board.

News reports Monday quoted senior Congress leader SJS Makker as saying Adityanath's statement was "an excuse for his government's failing to creat jobs for the youth".

Samajwadi Party spokesperson Suni Sajan said the chief minister's statement has made him a laughing stock. “Let him come out with the figures of how many government jobs his government has created," said Sajan.

NCP state chief Dr Ramesh Dixit meanwhile pointed out that there is no dearth of talent in Uttar Pradesh. He said that a large number of IAS and IPS officers hail from the state, as do several eminent jurists, doctors, and engineers. And that Uttar Pradesh has given eight prime ministers to the country.

“What more proof does he (Adityanath) want? There is no dearth of talent in the state but job scarcity forces them to migrate,” said Dr Dixit.
