Congress President Rahul Gandhi said Saturday that he has no visions of becoming prime minister, and that he views himself as "fighting an ideological battle".

"I don't have these visions. I view myself as fighting an ideological battle and this change has come in me after 2014. I realised that there's a risk to Indian state, to the Indian way of doing things and I'm defending that. I just get up in morning think of how do I defend the Indian institutional structure and how do I make sure that the country I love works together," Gandhi said after he was asked whether he saw himself as the next prime minister of India. 

US Senator John McCain died Saturday. McCain, 81, had been battling brain cancer.

"Senator John Sidney McCain III died at 4:28 pm on August 25, 2018. With the senator when he passed were his wife Cindy and their family," his office said in a statement."

Congress president Rahul Gandhi claimed on Saturday that fugitive tycoon Vijay Mallya had met BJP leaders before leaving India. Gandhi however said he was not going to name the leaders. 

Gandhi adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has been lenient on prominent industrialists. 

 

Nobel laureate Amartya Sen has said "democracy is in danger" in the country and that non-BJP, non-communal forces should join hands to fight the 2019 elections. 

He added that the Left should not hesitate to join forces with such an opposition. 

French Open chiefs have staged a controversy when they said that Serena Williams' will not be allowed to wear her 'Black Panther' catsuit again at the tournament.

They described the outfit as "going too far" and mentioned that they are set to introduce a stricter dress code.

"The outfit of Serena this year, for example, will no longer be accepted. You have to respect the game and the place," FFT president Bernard Giudicelli told Tennis Magazine.
