'Nation bows to those who valiantly fought': PM Modi, President Kovind pay tribute to 26/11 victims

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took to Twitter remembering the ghastly terror attacks that rocked the city Mumbai a decade ago. 

"A grateful nation bows to our brave police and security forces who valiantly fought the terrorists during the Mumbai attacks," he tweeted. 

"Tributes to those who lost their lives in the gruesome 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai. Our solidarity with the bereaved families," the tweet read. 

President Ram Nath Kovind also remembered the "supreme sacrifice" of police and security personnel stating, "Ten years after the Mumbai terror attacks, thoughts with families and individuals who suffered. We salute those from the police and security forces who made the supreme sacrifice that day. India remains honour-bound to securing justice and defeating terrorism," his tweet read. 

Taj Hotels, in a statement, noted that on the 10th anniversary of the "darkest days," they choose to "celebrate the heroes."

"It was a day that united us. Today, we stand stronger, and shine brighter than ever before," Taj Hotels tweeted out. 

Ten years ago on this day, 10 heavily-armed terrorists sailed into the city, carrying out a series of coordinated shooting and bombing attacks across the city.

The ghastly attacks lasted for four days killing 166 people and injuring over 300. After sailing to the city under the cover of darkness, the terrorists targeted major landmarks of Mumbai with first attack taking place at the crowded Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station.
