Watch: 'My 'zero loss'?claim was correct,' Kapil Sibal on 2G scam verdict

Former telecom minister Kapil Sibal who had famously declared in 2011 that there was "zero loss" to the exchequer in the 2G scam said today that he was right all along.

"Today it has been proved that my 'zero loss' claim was correct. Not a single paisa was stolen," he said.

"Vinod Rai(ex-CAG chief) should apologize to the nation as there was no wrongdoing in the case," he added.

The Comptroller and auditor general of India(CAG) chief Vinod Rai in his report had pegged the loss to the Union exchequer at Rs 1.76 lakh crore due to the 2G scam but Kapil Sibal had slammed the report at the time, saying not a single rupee was stolen.

The 2G scam had shaken the UPA government at the time leading to the ouster of A Raja as telecom minister. Kapil Sibal took over charge as telecom minister after Raja's exit from the cabinet.

Raja was later jailed for 15 months as the case continued. He later got bail in the case. DMK leader Kanimozhi was also jailed in the case.

In 2011, Time magazine had listed the scam at No.2 on their "Top 10 Abuses of Power" list after the Watergate scandal.
