Mumbai: 2 arrested over murder of former Shiv Sena corporator

Two suspects were today arrested in connection with the murder of former Shiv Sena corporator Ashok Sawant in Mumbai on Sunday.

A top police official told ANI that the vehicle used in the crime has been seized and that the investigation is on.

Ashok Sawant was stabbed outside his house in Kandivali while he was on his way home after meeting a friend.

Two assailants, who were waiting outside his house in a vehicle, approached him and stabbed him with choppers when he was barely 200 meters away from his house, media reports had said.

Mr Sawant was later taken to the nearest hospital of the area where he was declared dead by the doctors.

A case under section 302 of Indian Penal code has been filed.

Police have started investigating the case by watching CCTV footage of the area.

 It is suspected that the murder was a fallout of the extortion calls which he received a few days back and complained to the police about.
