Kharge contended that the Centre's action of sending CBI director on leave illegal, the report added

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday moved Supreme Court over Centre's decision to send CBI director Alok Verma on leave, news agency PTI reported.

Kharge contended that the Centre's action of sending CBI director on leave illegal, the report added.

He said that It's a clear-cut PMO's direct involvement in autonomous body and added he had filed a petition before SC requesting them to quash the order of Centre as it's illegal.

The Centre should've called a meeting of all 3-PM, CJI and me, he said and added without a meeting, without committee's consent, they overnight asked him to go on leave indefinitely, he said.

The Congress leader also said that CVC does not have the power to act against CBI director, who is appointed by a committee of PM, CJI and leader of the Opposition party.

CBI director Alok Verma, who has been involved in a bitter feud with the agency's No. 2 officer Rakesh Asthana, was sent on leave on October 23
and M Nageshwar Rao, a joint director within the CBI, was given the charge as the interim CBI director.

Verma has also challenged the Centre's decision in the Supreme Court.
