The IMD said Cyclone Nisarga has crossed over to Raigad district with wind speed of 90-100kmph in Mumbai and Thane accompanied by heavy rainfall.

Flight operations at the Mumbai airport will remain shut till 7 pm on Wednesday as a preventive step due to the ongoing landfall of cyclone Nisarga, Mumbai International Ltd (MIAL) said.

Cyclone Nisarga blew in from the Arabian Sea, making landfall at the coastal town Alibaug at around 12.30 pm and the process will finish by 4 pm, officials said.

India's Metorlogical Department said that the rear part of the wall cloud region is still over the sea and the landfall process will be completed in one hour. 

"Its current intensity near the centre is 90-100 kmph to 110kmph. It will move northeastwards and weaken into a cyclonic storm during next 6 hrs."

No landing or take-offs at Mumbai airport between 14:30 hrs to 19:00 hrs today owing to cyclone Nisarga

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport witnessed a runway excursion today with FedEx flight 5033 arriving from Bengaluru. The incident occurred when the MD11 aircraft landed on runway 14/32. The aircraft was towed away from the runway and there has been no disruption in flight operations.

In consultation with AAI, considering the strong crosswinds, it has been decided that no arrivals and departures will take place between 14:30-19:00 hrs.

Eight disaster relief teams placed in Maharashtra: Indian Coast Guard Region

The Indian Coast Guard Region (West) has mobilised eight Disaster Relief Teams for Maharashtra to respond to any requirement of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief arising due to impending landfall of cyclone Nisarga. 

The teams have been placed in Dahanu, Mumbai, Murud Janjira and Ratnagiri. Few teams area also kept in standby at Goa, Karnataka and Kerala.

Mumbai braces for Cyclone Nisarga; 1,00,000 people, including coronavirus patients, moved to safety

Cyclone Nisarga is fast approaching the northern coast of Maharashtra with a speed of 11 kilometres per hour, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Nisarga will make landfall as 'severe cyclonic storm' close to Alibag, 94 kms south of Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon with a wind speed of 100-110 kmh gusting to 120 kmh.
