The famous and widely-loved dish khichdi may soon become the country's "national food", according to media reports.

Speaking to reporters, Harsimrat Kaur, minister food processing said khichdi is favourite amongst everyone, be it the rich or poor, calling it the "queen of all food".

The authorities may make an official announcement on November 4.

The government is planning to organize an event where some of India's top chefs will gather to cook a large pot of khichdi, around 800 kgs with the aim of making it to the Guinness World Record for the largest khichdi ever to be cooked.

Several people including Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra and Ram Subramanian took to Twitter and expressed their opinions on the decision.
