Kasganj violence: CM Adityanath grants Rs 20 lakh compensation to kin of bereaved

Uttar Pradesh Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has granted a compensation of Rs 20 Lakh to the bereaved parents of Chandan Gupta, a young man who lost his life in clashes on the Republic Day.

The sum will be disbursed today in Kasganj, Principal Home Secretary noted. 

Violent clashes broke out in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh after the cremation of Chandan Gupta.

Kasganj Police on Thursday announced suspending all internet services until 10 pm on January 28. 

The police here also deployed drones to monitor the situation and avoid any untoward accident from taking place.

49 people were detained while section 144 was imposed.

Kasganj continued to simmer in violence on the second day as well.

Media reported at least three shops, two private buses and a car to have been torched.

According to Sanjeev Kumar, Inspector General, Kasganj Police, 32 people have been sent to jail so far under charges of murder while 51 have been detained.

"Situation is completely under control. There was no incident today (28 January), police forces have been stationed to keep an eye on the situation," Kumar noted on Sunday. 

An official statement issued by the UP Police said, "So far, 112 persons have been arrested. As many as 31 accused have been arrested, and 81 preventive arrests have been made."
