The Madras High Court ordered Wednesday that former DMK patriarch Karunanidhi is to be buried at Marina Beach. Karunanidhi died Tuesday at the age of 94.

The DMK told the court that Karunanidhi could not be buried at Gandhi Mandapam,  that those buried there had different ideologies.

There are currently already three memorials on Marina Beach to former Tamil Nadu chief ministers — the AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran or MGR, Annadurai, and Jayalalithaa.

MGR Memorial was built in memory of former CM of Tamil Nadu and AIADMK founder, Marudur Gopalan Ramachandran and has the highest footfall on the seafront.

Anna memorial, locally known as Anna Samadhi, is a memorial structure built on the Marina beach in memory of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C N Annadurai.

Jayalalithaa memorial at Marina beach is a sprawling memorial coming up adjacent to the memorial of AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran is designed like a phoenix with two lion statues at the entrance.

A fourth memorial is the Victory War memorial which is a circular rock and marble structure or the coastal belfry formerly called as the Cupid’s bow.

Karunanidhi's will be the fifth memorial.

Lovingly called as 'Kalaignar' by his supporters, he was the only Indian politician to have never lost any of the 13 assembly election that he contested in a row.
